Peter Gulluscio

Peter C. Gulluscio of Shelter Island died on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the age of 87.

He was born on July 12, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Dominic and Antoinette Gulluscio. He spent much of his working life as a cook at his mothers restaurant, Netties Italian Kitchen, where he learned to cook the way she did and fed a good many people over the years.
As a young man, Peter worked as a projectionist at the Greenport Cinema. It was in that projection booth that he fell in love with Hollywood and the movies, a passion that stayed with him for the rest of his life. He had a particular fondness for the classics, and above all for the films of John Wayne. He also loved to sing, and in his younger years he was a member of the choir at Our Lady of the Isle.

Peter was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Anthony. He is survived by his brother, Charles Gulluscio; his nephews, Todd, Michael, Robert, Chris, and John Gulluscio; his niece, Dawn Garmin; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Isle Roman Catholic Church on Shelter Island.

The Shelter Island Funeral Home is assisting the family during this difficult time.

Messages of Sympathy

Peter was always so kind when I would go to Netties for dinner. I have told people my whole life they Peter cooked me and my girlfriend the best t-bone steaks we ever had. Says a lot from a guy who lived in Colorado but its true. I will miss Peter and the warm kindness he always offered. Rest in peace Peter we won\'t forget you.
