Joseph
S. Grattan - Funeral Director
Joe is a long-time resident of the North Fork, having been
raised in Riverhead. After graduation from St. Isidore's Parochial
School and Mercy High School there, he attended the State
University of Farmingdale where he received his degree in
Mortuary Science. After the completion of his residency at
the DeFriest Funeral Homes, he became a New York State Licensed
Funeral Director. Joe lives in Mattituck with his wife Tracey
and their two children Joey and Allie. He is a member of the
Riverhead Moose Club, the Peconic Warpipes, is a past chief
and life-member of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps,
is a member of the
Mattituck and North Fork Chambers of Commerce
, the Southold Merchants Association and the National
Funeral Directors Association, the New York State Funeral
Directors Association and is a Past President of the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association.

A Southold native, Joe was a graduate of Southold High School
and the American Academy of Funeral Service in
New York City. He completed his residency at the DeFriest
Funeral Homes and became licensed as a New York State Funeral
Director. After his marriage to Cutchogue native, Barbara
Kurczewski,
he joined the Riverhead Town Police Department. After a distinguished
career of almost forty years, Joe recently retired and resumed
his affiliation with the funeral home owned by his son. During
his career in Law Enforcement, Joe maintained his affiliation
with area funeral homes and has been privileged to serve many
families on both the North and South Forks. Joe and his late wife Barbara
(1943-2009) who was the Riverhead Town Clerk for many years, also have a daughter, Lori, who is married to Sal Rosato.
They all reside on the North Fork. Joe is a member of the
Riverhead P.B.A. and S.O.A., the Suffolk County Police Conference,
Police Association and Chief's Association, Loyal Order of
the Moose, Polish Town Civic Association and has been a dedicated
member of the Salvation Army, March of Dimes and American
Heart Association for many years. Joe and Barbara are the
proud grandparents of Abigal Grace Rosato, Daniel Joseph Rosato,
Joseph Frank Grattan, Matthew Salvatore Rosato and Allison
Rose Grattan.
David I. DeFriest -
Funeral Director
Dave is a Riverhead native. Following his graduation from
the Renouard Training School for Embalmers, he worked in East
Elmhurst for Edward J. Devlin Funeral Homes. In 1940, the
established he DeFriest Funeral Homes in Southold which eventually
grew to three locations. David is a charter member of the
Southold Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow; a member of
the Chinese, Southold and Triangle Yacht Clubs, former member
of the Mattituck and Southold Chambers of Commerce and past
president of the Metropolitan Funeral Director's Association;
representing funeral homes in the New York City Metropolitan
Area and surrounding suburbs.
David E. DeFriest -
Funeral Director
Dave, Jr. is a native of Southold. After his graduation from
Southold High School and discharge from the United States
Navy, he attended the American Academy in New York City and
became a New York State Licensed Funeral Director in 1971.
Dave is a past president and member of the Southold Kiwanis
Club and is also a member of the Southold Presbyterian Church and the Rotary Club of Southold.
He lives in Southold with his wife, Vickie and their son,
Garrett. |
