 O.D. Lingo of Southold passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026. He was 95 years old.
Viewing Services were held on Saturday, August 8th from 10-11 A.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.
Funeral Services followed the visitation at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
Graveside Services with U.S. Army Honors will be held on Sunday, August 23rd at 12:30 P.M. at the Southold Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorial Services will follow at the First Presbyterian Church of Southold at 1:00 P.M.
Obituary
It is with deep respect and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of O.D. Lingo, who peacefully passed away on August 2, 2026 at the age of 95.
Born on March 26, 1931 in Macon, Georgia, O.D. lived a remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and love for family. As a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with honor during the Korean Conflict, carrying the values of courage, integrity, and selflessness throughout his life.
After military service, O.D. built a fulfilling career as an animal handler for the USDA at Plum Island and was known for a strong work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help others. He found joy with various hobbies, volunteer work, faithfully attending church and reading his bible, leaving a lasting impression on friends, neighbors, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, O.D. treasured family. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nan Morris and Evelyn Morris and a host of nieces and nephews and two special people Lois and Jeffrey Langhorne who will forever cherish the memories, wisdom, and unconditional love he shared. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor (Morris) Lingo whom he married on April 15, 1972.
A visitation and funeral service was held at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, NY on August 8, 2026. A memorial service with military honors in recognition of his faithful service to the nation will be announced in the future.
Though O.D.'s journey has come to an end, his legacy of honor, resilience, and devotion will continue to inspire generations to come. May he rest in eternal peace.

Mr. O.D., also known to me as \"Uncle O.D\". You were not only a long-time neighbor, but a part of our family. I will miss you driving by and stopping to chat as I did yardwork. You always wanted to help and did so with a smile on your face. When I would tell you that I needed the exercise, you would laugh and say, \"Ok sweetheart, let me know if you need anything\". \r\n\r\nYou are now in God\'s embrace with your beautiful wife. May your memory be eternal. I miss you already...until we meet again.
