Dorothy "Dottie" Adams Follett of Westhampton Beach died on September 7 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She was 98.
She was born on April 8, 1928, in New York City.
She grew up in New York City and Weehawken, New Jersey, and had a lifelong passion for the performing arts, attending Broadway shows, films, and big bands throughout her youth. She graduated from Southern Seminary College in Buena Vista, Virginia, and began her career with the Burlington Mills Corporation in New York City.
In 1951, she married Edwin "Ed" Follett. They lived in Fort Lee, New Jersey, before settling in Westhampton Beach, where they raised their three children, Pam, Jeanne, and Edwin Jr., known as "Bud."
The couple were active members of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church and were longtime members of the Swordfish Club. She later worked for the Westhampton Beach school system, first as an administrative assistant and then as assistant to the principal of the elementary school.
She loved hosting a full house of family and friends for holidays and birthdays, and had a lifelong love of animals, especially her dogs, Sydney, Bentley, and Mei Ling among her favorites.
In 1989, the couple retired to Ponte Vedra Beach, where they enjoyed the beach and golf at the Ponte Vedra Club, theater and symphony in Jacksonville, and travelling near and far. They were devoted members of Christ Church Episcopal.
Following her husband’s death in 2011, sustained by her faith and loved ones, she carried on with the life she loved for 15 more years, traveling, volunteering at Christ Church, and enjoying lunches, dinners and the company of family and friends.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished relative and friend, remembered for her joy, warmth, and wry sense of humor.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Follett. She is survived by her three children, Pamela Follett and her late husband John, Jeanne Steele and her husband Timm, and Bud Follett and his wife Sharon; and by her two grandsons, James Steele and Adam Steele.
She was interred alongside her husband at Westhampton Cemetery on September 26. A memorial service will be held on November 7 at the Chapel at Vicar's Landing Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach.
