Obituary
Marilyn Jean Marschean was born on October 5, 1932, in Queens, N.Y., where she married her beloved husband, Dick, and developed a passion for sewing. Marilyn, or “Nana” as she was called by her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, died at the age of 93 on August 26, 2026. On January 29, 1946, Marilyn received an award of merit presented by the Simplicity Pattern Co. Inc., recognizing her outstanding achievement in planning and executing her Simplicity sewing project. She was a talented seamstress, tailoring clothes and sewing for her family. Marilyn and Dick retired in 1999 to the place they first met and fell in love in Southold, N.Y. They lived in the house her parents, Ed and Tess Hildebrand, built in 1941, where they hosted many Hildebrand family reunions. Marilyn enjoyed the simple things in life - babysitting and later spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, gardening, cooking, travelling, Frank Sinatra songs, old movies, and, after Dick’s death in 2011, spending time with her many friends at Southold Town Senior Center in Mattituck. Her innate warmth and love will be terribly missed by her family and friends.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Catherine Marschean-Spivak (John), Jean Lederer, and Amy Marschean (Paul Gilding). Her husband Dick, son Richard, and son-in-law Rick Lederer predeceased her. Marilyn is survived by her daughter-in-law Carolyn Marschean. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Beth Melfi (Frank), Amanda Neil (Justin), Nicole and Richie Marschean, and Henry, Charlie, Sam, and Ben Lederer, and great grandsons Vinny Melfi and James and Nicholas Neil. Donations in Marilyn's memory can be made payable to Southold Town Senior Center, PO Box 85, Mattituck, N.Y. 11952, Attn: Jacqui Martinez, Senior Citizen Program Director. The family will plan a Celebration of Life at a later date and a private interment at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, 4017 Main Bayview Road, Southold, N.Y. 11971.
